Legislators fault “open-border policies” for issues at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The House passed a resolution on Wednesday, introduced by Representative Nathaniel Moran of Texas, formally rebuking the “open-border policies” of President Biden’s administration. The resolution does not introduce any actions to adjust current border policies but does release a formal statement of disapproval for the administration’s current management of the U.S.-Mexico border and the ongoing immigration crisis.
When Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was asked if this resolution was the Congressional precursor to more concrete immigration policy reform, he said it was not. “I don’t think now is the time for comprehensive immigration reform, because we know how complicated that is,” Speaker Johnson stated after the resolution passed.
